I'm working on compiling writing and reading resources from all of our English / Language Arts teachers. I'll continue to update this page, so let me know if there is something that would be helpful to you!
6th Grade Writing Scoring Guide - Shumway
If your 6th grader is in Ms.Shumway's class, they should already have a copy of this scoring guide in their writing folder - ask to see it!
(You can also click on the image to the left to see a highlighted version of this guide.)
Each time your student turns in a writing piece, they should get out their scoring guide and go through each section: Do they meet all the requirements for a 4 or a 5? If not, they should take the time to revise.
The score in Synergy will not show you which areas they got higher or lower scores in....it will only show you their overall score for that paper. Ideally you'll see scores continue to rise over time as they continue to grow as writers!
To see scores for specific areas - ask your student to see the actual piece of writing that was returned, the scores are on the paper in a stamped box.
